Below is a letter from the BBWC board of directors. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us via email or phone.
Friends of Blue Bronna Wilderness Camp (BBWC):
As many of you are aware, the Government of Canada has recently introduced a change to the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) grant process that forces organizations applying for the grant to agree with values that the organization may not support. This has commonly come to be referred to as “checking the attestation box.”
As BBWC has in the past used CSJ funding for camp staff, BBWC had originally applied for CSJ grants hoping that the policy would be changed prior to the CSJ grants being awarded. However, recent events, including a vote in Parliament, have made it clear that the Government does not intend to reverse its current policy direction.
Thus, upon sober reflection and prayer, the Board of BBWC has decided that it cannot in good conscience follow through with the CSJ process and has decided to withdraw its CSJ application. We know this is the right thing to do and trust that God will honour this decision.
Unfortunately, this also leaves us with an approximately $20, 000.00 shortfall in staff funding for the 2018 camp season.
Thus, we are asking for your help in making up for this lost revenue. We look forward to seeing how God will bless BBWC through His people in light of our decision to withdraw our CSJ application.
Thank you so much for your support in this matter.
Interim Chair, BBWC
